AT MIDDLETON

Academy Award nominees Andy Garcia (Ocean’s 11, City Island) and Vera Farmiga (A&E’s “Bates Motel”, Up in the Air) star as straight-laced George and eccentric Edith, two strangers who meet on their children’s campus tour at the idyllic Middleton College. Failing comically to connect with their kids, George and Edith play hooky together, ditching the official tour for a carefree adventure reminiscent of their own college years. But what begins as an afternoon of fun soon becomes a revealing and enlightening experience that will change their lives forever. A light-hearted romance for adults on the surface, At Middleton is a deeply moving portrait of roads not taken and the timelessness of youth.

Taissa Farmiga (“American Horror Story”), Spencer Lofranco (Jamesy Boy), Peter Riegert (“Dads”), and Tom Skerritt (“Picket Fences”) also star in this story about what can happen on your first day of college – no matter who you are – At Middleton.

An Anchor Bay Production, AT MIDDLETON opens commercially in San Diego on January 31st. Running Time” 99 Minutes. Rating: R (for drug use and brief sexuality).

PLEASE NOTE: This event takes place on a Monday.

For me, the best part of this movie was the cameo performances of selected college students. Oh, was I ever that clueless and self-important? Otherwise, did not buy the story. All main characters were walking stereotypes. Great concept, poor execution.

Another movie that belongs on the Hallmark channel. It will bomb in theatrical release.

Unbelievable and irritating. Waste of a good actor.

Would have left early but was in the middle of the aisle.

I've tried to figure out just what it was about this movie that bothered me so much. Although the scenery was beautiful and the basic story line was an interesting one, for me it not only missed the mark but was an irritant. The script took every turn of a simple story and ratcheted it up to an unbelievable level...the baring of the soul in the drama class, the smiling pot in the dorm room...come on!

I found the female lead to be coy, immature and annoying. Although Andy Garcia was a much more likable character he was so naive (in his bow tie and struggles for cell phone reception) that he was hardly believable. And what cardiac surgeons do you know who really want their sons to go to a charming tiny college?

Enjoyed this fun movie so much. LOVED the scenery of the campus, the adventures, the fun, the "let loose" behavior and the real life drama that takes place in couples every day. Always good to toss in a "lighter" film. Thank you Andy.

The movie started off great, and on one level was quirky and funny. I did get some chuckles for sure, even some laughs. On another level I have a lot more years than being 18, and hopefully some wisdom too. I found Edith to be dangerous, disrespectful to everyone in her life, and confused, not centered at all. If a person would have a relationship with her, they would soon regret it. So that is not really much of a love story - unless you are 18 and don't know any better. One narrow aspecdt of her is fun, but that would quickly get old and the lack of character would make her a nightmare.

Maybe a good movie for teens, and it did have enough depth to be thought provoking about some nightmares in my own past, but still not up to the ususal great movie standards.

Lastly, I guess while I'm being critical, those people in the dorm room were acting drunk, not high.
