SEDUCING DR. LEWIS (LA GRANDE SEDUCTION)

St. Marie-La-Mauderne is a tiny fishing village in what some may call the middle of nowhere. For eight years the locals have stood in line for weekly welfare checks, wearing patched sweaters and glum expressions, and remembering the good old days when the catch was good, the fishermen were proud, and life seemed a lot more magical. Then one day, a chance at salvation: a small company wants to build a factory on the island, but only if a full-time doctor lives in St. Marie. The situation seems hopeless until a young doctor in Montreal has an unfortunate incident with a traffic cop and finds himself on a boat to the faraway village. But how to convince handsome, young, urbane Dr. Lewis to stay in this dreary little spot on the map? As it turns out, the answer lies in just a bit of seductive subterfuge--along with a tapped phone, a hastily assembled cricket team, and something called Festival de Beef Stroganoff. Written by Ken Scott (STARBUCK, THE DELIVERY MAN), SEDUCING DOCTOR LEWIS stars David Boutin, Lucie Laurier and Raymond Bouchard.

Running Time: 108 Minutes. Not Rated

Cute, sweet and fun…nice little movie...my only observation is that French Canadian doesn’t sound as “nice” as France French.

It was a silly, predictable romp, but entertaining enough. The characters were mostly caricatures, but also likeable enough. It may not have been deep and meaningful, but it wasn't trying to be.

SEDUCING DR.LEWIS was silly, stupid, and predictable. I liked it. Not all Cinema Society offerings need be esoteric documentaries or character studies of the culturally-disconnected.

This film reminds me more of "Local Hero" than it does "Waking Ned Devine", but it was a charming, funny story. Too bad the English subtitles were so poorly done.

Didn't realize it was made 11 years ago though! Read some reviews of the English language remake which premiered at Toronto Film Festival in 2013, and it has pretty much been panned. Keep bringing us some films from Quebec, but surely we can find something made more recently that is a good film?
