GRUDGE MATCH

GRUDGE MATCH stars award-winning movie legends Oscar® winner Robert De Niro (RAGING BULL, SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK) and Oscar® nominee Sylvester Stallone (the ROCKY films, THE EXPENDABLES) as old boxing rivals who come out of retirement for one final match.

In GRUDGE MATCH, De Niro and Stallone play Billy “The Kid” McDonnen and Henry “Razor” Sharp, two local Pittsburgh fighters whose fierce rivalry put them in the national spotlight. Each had scored a victory against the other during their heyday, but in 1983, on the eve of their decisive third match, Razor suddenly announced his retirement, refusing to explain why but effectively delivering a knock-out punch to both their careers. Thirty years later, boxing promoter Dante Slate Jr., seeing big dollar signs, makes them an offer they can’t refuse: to re-enter the ring and settle the score once and for all.

Co-starring Kevin Hart, Alan Arkin, and Kim Basinger, GRUDGE MATCH is directed by Peter Segal (GET SMART). A Warner Bros. Release, it opens commercially in San Diego on December 25th.

Running Time: 113 Minutes Rated PG-13 for sports action violence, sexual content and language |

PLEASE NOTE: 30 minutes prior to each GRUDGE MATCH “on screen” time, the Cinema Society presents its Holiday Movie Trailer show, allowing members to “one stop shop” the holiday movie season.

Must admit my expectations were pretty low going in (like a 3...out of 10), after watching the movie it turned into a 4.5. I can appreciate the “subtle” references to Rocky and Raging Bull but it wasn’t enough to really make the viewing worthwhile and it’s difficult now after both actor’s long careers and pretty much playing the same type of role to not expect and get the same ‘ol same ol out of them. Maybe for the major diehard fan that thinks these two can do no wrong will love this film but for the average film goer I think it’ll fall into “its ok as a rental” category.
