MARIE'S STORY

Late 19th century in rural France: the calm routine of a Catholic school for deaf girls is disrupted by the arrival of a humble artisan who hopes to give a better life to his blind and deaf daughter. Marie is fierce and wild, 14 years old but nearly feral. She escapes up a tree, her usual refuge, and the Mother Superior also refuses - the school cannot properly care for such a child. But Sister Marguerite (Isabelle Carré) sees in Marie the capacity to learn, and makes it her mission to draw the girl out of her dark, silent world, and into the community around her. This is an inspiring true story of kindness and determination, of friendship and personal miracles.
