WHERE I STAND: THE HANK GREENSPUN STORY
Academy Award® Winner Anthony Hopkins narrates this story of the Brooklyn kid who became a Vegas titan. His colorful career as a “give ‘em hell” newspaperman would be unbelievable as fiction.
As much a newsmaker as a reporter, the outspoken Greenspun ran guns to the new State of Israel, stood up against Joseph McCarthy, recruited Howard Hughes to buy out the Vegas mob, ended segregation on the Strip, and protested nuclear waste dumping in Nevada. Directed by Scott Goldstein, WHERE I STAND: THE HANK GREENSPUN STORY has been heralded by EFilmCritic.com as “one of the greatest stories you’ve never been told unfolding with all the twists of a great spy thriller”.
Running Time: 98 Minutes
Not Rated
PLEASE NOTE: “Society’s Finest Award” ballots will be handed out this evening!

Here it is a week after seeing this film and I am still thinking about it. Hank was a true hero in every sense of the word. Heroes inspire and motivate all of us. This film typifies the quality and diversity of what we are privileged to enjoy with our wonderful Cinema Society. I am proud and privileged to be a member.

This is one of the reasons we LOVE the Cinema Society. A terrific look at some one we never knew about. Fascinating story. Agree with the director, could be a mini series. If James Caan were younger he would have been a great Hank.

The last film of the season is always bittersweet, but this film definitely made it all the sweeter. My Dad is on vacation right now so I can't ask him if he has heard of Mr. Greenspun (because my Dad knows everything :o) , I just know more people do need to know about Mr,. Greenspun and all the good that he did. I was just so captivated by everything that just kept happening to him and all the while this man was not after money, glory or fame, he was actually most happy and content when he and his family were healthy and happy and together but peace in his life didn't seem to ever last for long. As horrible as stomach cancer is (or any cancer), it seems that would be the only thing that could have taken this bigger-than-life-man down. We the people are surely all the better for having Mr. Greenspun grace this earth.

I cast my vote on IMDB.com. The count is now 56 which isn't much of an increase over the 46 indicated on Scott Goldstein's hand out.
Cinema Society Members - Let's back this movie.

Well written & well edited. While Hank Greenspun is an interesting man and certainly has quite a story to tell, I found him to be untrustworthy and notorious. Stealing weapons? Threatening to kill people? I'm not sure I like his style of getting things done -- it's as if the rules didn't apply to him. I would not use his story as a way to show children that one man can make a difference in the world -- Hank Greenspun's 'way' is too radical, too vicious.

A documentary with lots of surprises. Where else can you go to see arms smuggling, Vegas nightlife, the mob, Vegas heavyweights, from Hughes to Wynn, and exposes of everything from McCarthyism to nuclear waste to Watergate. But my favorite parts were comments by Barbara Greenspun and Hank and Barbara dancing to "Where or When". All this good material was not wasted as filmmaker Scott Goldstein used, among other tools,jh eye-popping graphics, crisp sound, and fast-paced editing to grab and entertain our audience and hopefully many more.

Never heard of this man before and would have been so sad not to have included him on my hero list. Thanks Andy for again expanding my vision.

This was an amazing story about a real-live Forrest Gump. Why isn't he a household name?!? It's always a bonus to meet the filmmakers and Scott Goldstein was a super bonus. Thanks, Andy!

This is a movie that needs to be seen far and wide. The courage of this one man is an inspiration, especially during these times when fear and intimidation are common political weapons. This movie made the whole season worthwhile for me.
