THE SWIMSUIT ISSUE

THE SWIMSUIT ISSUE follows eight middle-aged jocks as they come together to create Sweden's first all-male synchronized swimming team. The team's leader and founder is Fredrik, played by the talented Jonas Inde. Fredrik is a divorced and unemployed journalist who is fired by his female editor. His daughter, played by the equally engaging Amanda Davin, is a synchronized swimmer who comes to live with Fredrik when her mother moves to London for work. After Fredrik loses his venue for playing indoor hockey to a female team, he decides to use his daughter's swimming uniform for an evening of drunken bachelor party antics. That night eventually leads to Fredrik and his hockey team taking up a new sport, with Sara as the coach.

sweet and entertaining. It won't make my list of favorite films but it did tell an interesting story with some great characters.

This may not have been the best foreign film ever or the best produced/quality film but it was sweet and overall it had a good message. It did peak my curiosity enough to look up "men's" synchronized swimming and I found that this film seemed to have really embellished the initial importance or popularity of it being a man's sport, about all I found on the true history was just a simple statement, practically a blip. In the film I actually liked the dad/Fredrik, he was commanding and dedicated to his buddies and their goals and though we was weak when it came to being a spouse/parent in the end I think he taught his daughter a very good lesson about sacrifice/love/friendship and truth and I think he learned that lesson for himself therefore becoming a better parent and person.

Also something else that I got out of seeing this film is now that I have seen the most foreign films I ever have (due to attending the PSFF) I have to say that aside from the challenge have having to read white letters, the various languages that I have been hearing have been from countries that I don't really see their films very often and have realized that I have been rather sheltered by mostly viewing Italian and French films that are more romantic and lyrical sounding. German, Serbian, Korean etc. and even this Swedish film have a much harsher tone and things like sarcasm, lightheartedness and softness are difficult to detect (making everyone seem angry all the time), therefore making me pay closer attention to the words and manner to then see all of our cultural differences to ultimately see all of our similarities. I'd give it a 3.5 if I could.

My face hurts. From smiling. Sometimes it is relaxing just to see a film that keeps my lips turned up instead of scrunching up in horror or sobbing or frowning in intensity. Watching a Swedish film is easy because the pacing of the language is so in synch with the subtitles. Particularly liked the film because no one else will be seeing it...it's great to have a little secret like that.

Well,it wasn't THAT bad.....certainly had it's charm. It was very slow and I found myself looking at my watch...not a good sign. I did like the ending and also enjoyed the clips of the mens' synchronized swim competition during the credits.

I'll take this film over a "chick flick" any day!

Awful production quality, mediocre acting and not really funny.

Many factors should have sunk SWIMSUIT ISSUE; among them, political incorrectness and comedy lost in translation. However, there was just enough humor and plot interest to keep it afloat.
