EXTRAORDINARY MEASURES

In the tradition of great inspirational dramas like the Academy AwardŽ nominated film ERIN BROCKOVICH and THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS, EXTRAORDINARY MEASURES is inspired by the true story of John Crowley, a man who defied conventional wisdom and great odds, and risked his family's future to pursue a cure for his children's life threatening disease.

Starring Harrison Ford, Brendan Fraser and Keri Russell, EXTRAORDINARY MEASURES is directed by Tom Vaughan (STARTER FOR 10, WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS). A CBS Films Release, it opens commercially in San Diego on January 22nd.

Rated PG for thematic material, language and a mild suggestive moment.

Running Time: TBA

I saw little redeeming value in this weak, clumsy movie. The story is undeniably appealing, but it is presented here in a way that feels both artificial and exploitative. Brendan Fraser could not be stiffer. Harrison Ford embarrasses himself in a dreadfully one-dimensional, overstated, and dumbed-down performance. Even the kids are hard to take. Kerri Russell is the best of the bunch, but her role is insufficiently challenging, and she seemed at times to be bored.

I can't tell whether the problem was the script or the direction or both, but this movie was just half a notch above a flat-out stinker.

I agree with the others who thought this was a stinker. The story itself is heartwarming and moving, but the film representation of it fell flat. The writing and the acting were forced and trite. I love Harrison Ford, but was disappointed in his performance. It was all so formulaic and predictable.

Andy,

I really enjoyed the move, the content, the erformances everything about it. This move is one of the many reasons its so worthwhile to be a memeber of the San Diego Cinema Society.

My son Christian Duk is enrolled in the Enlish lit PhD program at San Diego State, and he is taking a class this semester in screenwriting.

Is there any chance that Robert Nelson Jacobs would be willing to correspond with Christian?

If there is, Mr Jacobs could contact him at christianduk@gmail.com

Thanks for putting on a great program!

I loved the story. But I'm a sucker for films based on real life events. In these difficult times it's important to see what persistence and passion can accomplish. I loved seeing Harrison Ford being such a curmudgeon. Frequently those that are truly brilliant have limited social skills and he fit the bill. It wasn't a great film but I'm glad you put it in the mix. I'd really like to give it a 3.5 but that's nit in the drop down---yet! (Hint hint)

After seeing the previews for this film I went into this movie feeling too that it felt like this was a "made for TV" kind of film and though I ended up liking it more then I thought I would it was still just okay but I don't think I would view it again and I wouldn't recommend it the same way I did "Blind Side".

Great movie. I love movies based on true stories that are interesting enough to be pure fiction. Very well written and very well acted. Thank you!

I normally would not like this type of movie, however, it worked fine for me. It kept me engrossed. I will have no trouble recommending it.

I look at this film as expanding my mind. Never heard about pompe. The bumpy road between idea and implementation so arduous a journey. See this as a documentary. You can google this and trace its authenticity right down to the he quit his job as opposed to being fired. As informative as Erin B., just no boobs.

EXTRAORDINARY MEASURES should have been a better film, but the actors let it down. Ford mistook bluster for eccentricity and Russell, perkiness for optimism. Fraser fared the best but couldn't save the film all by himself.

Sadly, I agree with the member who said this was the worst of the season. What a disappointment! I came ready to enjoy performances of three actors whose work I have enjoyed. Worst of all was the corny, hackneyed dialog! The screenwriter did well on his earlier work, but seriously, this was terrible! I'm also a big sap who was left unmoved by this movie. I will not be recommending this to my friends.

This was the season's worst showing. For Harrison Ford it was merely a pay check. It was hard to muster any sympathy for a family which did not show any chemistry. There were just bodies saying lines. Good for Mr. Crowley. He made a killing on this film. His MBA was not wasted. Only our time.

Made for TV movie.

I actually enjoyed this movie and was very taken with the family. Harrison Ford is not playing a cuddly character...he is curmudgeonly and without social skills, as is true of many brilliant scientists.

I work with people with serious disabilities who hope and work for a cure someday...so I could relate to the frustration and desperation of this family.

There is a short feature on the movie's website that shows the real family, if members are interested in that: http://extraordinarymeasuresthemovie.com/#/johncrowley

I know Andy doesn't make 'em...and in this case he should be really glad he doesn't. There was NO chemistry (except in the lab) and even I (who cry at Hallmark commercials and the Olympics) couldn't muster up a tear or concern. CBS Films...direct to TV probably the best thing that could happen to those giant close ups, trite script and clunky movie.
