THE YOUNG VICTORIA

In THE YOUNG VICTORIA, Emily Blunt (SUNSHINE CLEANING, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA) delivers an incredibly appealing performance as Queen Victoria in the turbulent first years of her reign. Rupert Friend (PRIDE & PREJUDICE) portrays Prince Albert, the suitor who wins her heart and becomes her partner in one of history’s greatest romances. This love story, set amongst all the intrigue of the court, also features Paul Bettany (IRON MAN, THE DA VINCI CODE), Miranda Richardson (HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE), Jim Broadbent (THE DAMNED UNITED, THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA), Thomas Kretschmann (VALKYRIE), and Mark Strong (SHERLOCK HOLMES, TRISTAN & ISOLDE).

THE YOUNG VICTORIA, an Apparition Release, opens commercially in San Diego on December 18th.

Rated PG for some mild sensuality, a scene of violence, and brief incidental language and smoking. / Running Time 100 Minutes

PLEASE NOTE: Our annual Holiday Trailer Movie Show begins at 6:30PM, followed by an introduction and screening of THE YOUNG VICTORIA at 7:00pm.

I enjoyed this film, though I did feel like it ended rather abruptly and I did want it to go on (make amends with her mother, see more children come along etc.). I guess if you leave 'em wanting more that is a good thing. Though the costumes were beautiful and elegant this film was not as elaborate and sweeping and over the top as the "Elizabeth" movies with Cate Blanchett. After listening to out special guest speaker and their search for a "Albert" I wondered if Orlando Bloom had been considered as I thought he has a similar look to Rupert Friend. It was also enjoyable to find out that former Royal, Sarah Duchess of York, was involved with the making of the film, as was her daughter Princess Beatrice ,who makes a brief appearance as an extra (talk about nepotism! :o)

What a terrific evening and a great movie. Knowing that this had the full backing of Buck House ~ and allowing great access to papers, letters ,etc made it really authentic. I think Emily Blunt was enchanting and just right for the role. Rupert F was okay and made better when he was in scenes with Emily. Great chemistry. It did feel a bit glossed over. English history is very complicated, but the next portion of Victoria's life ( to me) is the most interesting...the years when it really was Victoria & Albert. This movie was a perfect set up for that story. Great evening...Thanks Andy!

Great costumes and sets. Most of the performances were good. Even Emily Blunt, who did not seem entirely plausible as a queen, did a creditable job in her role. But the narrative seemed thin and somehow incomplete. Even the love story was underdeveloped -- there was little to explain why Victoria and Albert were so drawn to each other.

Though I found the political intrigues a bit hard to follow and that it ended kind of abruptly for me (as if it was Part 1 of a 3 part miniseries), I loved this movie. The editing and camerawork could have been distracting and out of place under less delicate hands, but it felt fresh, innovative and brought the visuals and story to life in sumptuous detail. A very satisfying and beautiful love story with perfectly cast leads. This one’s going to be part of my DVD collection.

Beautiful cinematography and costumes. Loved the acting and the chemistry between Victoria and Albert. I googled Queen Victoria as soon as I got home, wanting to know more. Great choice, Andy!

Not the best movie this year. Not the best acting this year. Not the best directing this year. Not the best music this year. Not the most beautiful cinematically this year AND I LOVED EVERY SINGLE MINUTE OF IT. Once again, enhanced by having the producer with us. A lovely experience.
