Just announced as this year’s Finnish Academy Award® submission for best foreign language film, LETTERS TO FATHER JACOB is a warm-hearted and touching story of Leila, a life sentence prisoner who has just been pardoned. When she is released from prison, she is offered a job at a secluded parsonage and she moves there against her will. Leila is used to taking care only of herself, so trouble is to be expected when she starts working as the personal assistant for Jacob, the blind priest living in the parsonage.

What a powerful, powerful film and I was left in such awe of the beauty and not just the beauty of the cinematography but of the acting. That only two actors (plus a third small supporting character) could carry a film so well with so few words and action. I really appreciated how after seeing the film "Precious" that in this film they could convey Leila's horrific childhood with out one scene of violence but her monologue had the same powerful impact. The film seemed shorter than 75min (and that was very short to begin with).

Of course Mr. Haro himself was a delight and seemed a natural at appearing at these things and handling Q & A's....and with this film in particular, to find out the back story on how this film came about made the experience that much more memorable and the film that more endearing.

Andy you did a great job of organizing the evening, I got to see the films I wanted without any problems and had a wonderful time. Thank you!
