JUST ADDED FOR OCTOBER!
LARS AND THE REAL GIRL
When Lars Lindstrom (Ryan Gosling) introduces his brother Gus (Paul Schneider) and sister-in-law Karin (Emily Mortimer) to his new friend Bianca, whom he met on the internet, their immediate response is shock and disbelief. Has Lars, the sweet, socially challenged introvert gone completely mad? They meet Bianca and see a doll, but Lars sees a friend. What follows is an emotional, comical, transformative journey for Lars and the people around him.
Written by SIX FEET UNDER scribe Nancy Oliver, LARS AND THE REAL GIRL also stars Patricia Clarkson and Kelli Garner, and is directed by Craig Gillespie (MR. WOODCOCK), with Sidney Kimmel producing, along with John Cameron and Sarah Aubrey. William Horberg, Peter Berg and Bruce Toll serve as executive producers. It opens commercially in San Diego on October 26th.
Rated PG-13 for some sex-related content
Running Time: 106 Minutes
PLEASE NOTE: THIS EVENT TAKES PLACE ON A MONDAY.

Andy: You're doing a great job bringing us some very good films; we really enjoyed "Lars and the Real Girl" and will want to see it again.
A great vision of what a community can become as it "cares" for one of its own native sons; no matter that he is a bit peculiar.
By the way, an article in Thursday's NC Times business section regarding the business "Abyss Enterprises" (name ?) and the connection to their dolls and the movie. It refers to the movie as treating the doll and the concept of anatomical dolls in a "chaste" fashion.

Andy's comparison of this film to a Frank Capra endeavor was right on target. The Capra films were, for the most part, as light or as profound as you allowed them to be, and that is certainly the case with Lars And The Real Girl. I loved it! It will stay with me for a long, long time.

What a delightful film this is... after the recent films we have been viewing (all very good in their own right) I really welcomed this gem. It’s so hard to find a good comedy these days and though this isn’t a straight out “comedy” (dramedy?) it really hits the spot.
I like that the film does not spell everything out as to the whys and how comes, it gives us the chance to figure that out for ourselves, we have to pay attention to know what is going on (or what happened in the past). It sort of starts in the middle and though at the end I would have loved to have seen the baby be born (and Lars reaction) and see how Lars’s new relationship progressed, we are only privileged to know what we know and be satisfied with that….this film is what I like to call a “slice of life”.
The way the community rallied around Lars is a true testament to what a great person Lars is (and at one point you have to ask “who’s really delusional, Lars or the townspeople?”), the dedication and compassion they showed was beyond anything I would have ever expected... Oh to be so blessed as to have that kind of love and support in ones own life... Thank you Andy, I had pleasant dreams last night.

Oh my gosh…how great is Lars?? Andy, you said Frank Capra, and I can so see that…but I felt like it was more like Being There (one of my personal favorites). It affirms one of my beliefs of the basic decency and gentle goodness of people.
I hope people who see this can get past the "doll" aspect of Bianca and focus on the companion aspect of her. Being voted onto the school board was classic! I thought it interesting that the funniest aspect was not Lars and Bianca, it was everyone else and Bianca... the co-worker's husband dancing with her @ the party!! How funny was that?
I loved how the more Lars came back into the real world, the colors of his wardrobe got brighter and more pictures appeared in his cubicle. I liked how the concept of death tied to the season and as winter was ending ( slowly) Bianca was dying. Brilliant!
For me, it was more of a fable about love and tolerance. Put me down for a 4…
thanks again for bringing this to the Cinema.

Yep, Andy's picked another winner. I don't think I've laughed this much or heard this much laughter since Little Miss Sunshine, and yet it's really not just a comedy. Quirky, absurd, awkward, touching, sad, dramatic and just very funny (what else can you do but laugh). Ryan Gosling gives what appears to be a very believable performance. I'm not sure how people from little towns in Wisconson will react to it.
Way to go Lars!
