MORE THAN A GAME

Five talented young basketball players from Akron, Ohio star in this remarkable true-life coming of age story about uncommon friendship in the face of all too common adversities.

Coached by a charismatic but inexperienced player’s father, and led by future NBA superstar Lebrun James, the “Fab Five’s” improbable seven-year journey leads them from a decrepit inner-city gym to the doorstep of a national high school championship.

Along the way, the close-knit team is repeatedly tested--both on and off the court--as James’ exploding worldwide celebrity threatens to destroy everything they’ve set out to achieve together.

MORE THAN A GAME combines a series of unforgettable one-on-one interviews with rare news footage, never-before-seen home videos and personal family photographs to bring this heartwarming and wholly American story to life.

Written and Directed by Christopher Bellman, MORE THAN A GAME is a Lions gate Release. It opens commercially in San Diego on October 9th.

Running Time: 105 Minutes

I don't like basketball, or any sports for that matter, but still loved this movie! The editing was amazing, and the committment to this documentary film is inspiring.

Shout out to LMU!!!

And it was more then a basketball movie or even a LeBron James movie. What is even more amazing is the timing (and luck) that Kristopher Bellman found this story and stayed dedicated to it to be there when LeBron became "King James". Truly though, what a great story about friendship, leadership, humility and determination. I do wish that there had been more time shown of the boys everyday life so that we could have seen there commitment to their education was strong and was the reason they went on to higher education (except LeBron) and it was because of their smarts not just their talent that got them there. Also the (3) speakers added much enjoyment to the evening. I don't think the question of "what's next" for the Director was asked but I sure want to keep tabs on his future films.

When Andy turned out the lights in Theater 5 and the audience hushed, all you could hear was the sound of basketballs bouncing on a linoleum court. Perfect. From that perfect beginning to the final buzzer of the state championship, Kristopher Belman treats us to a slick and very well made production.

It started when I walked thru the door last night and the greeter said"I'm so surprised to see so many ladies here!" And I said"are you kidding? I love basketball" I played when I was in High School and I can still remember going to my first College Basketball Game--I loved the sound of the shoes squeaking while the guys ran up and down the court--the ball swishing thru the hoop. The movie last night captured it all--and more. The editing was indeed brilliant and kudos to the director for his devotion and patience. This film is a winner. Gotta love those Midwesterners!

The secret was in the editing. LeBron James certainly didn't hurt. I am wondering about the impact of this film if he hadn't been the "lead singer in the band." It wasn't all about winning basketball games, but it sure wasn't about losing. What a time they had! When LeBron went with the Cavs it was clear that he was committed to what was right in his life. Glad we got to see what lead up to it.
