THE BOYS ARE BACK

Inspired by a true story, THE BOYS ARE BACK is a deeply moving, wryly confessional tale of fatherhood, that intimately evokes both the fragility and wonders of family life. It follows a witty, wisecracking, action-oriented sportswriter (Academy AwardŽ nominee and Golden GlobeŽ winner CLIVE OWEN) who, in the wake of his wife's tragic death, finds himself in a sudden, stultifying state of single parenthood. With turbulent emotions swirling just below the surface, Joe Warr throws himself into the only child-rearing philosophy he thinks has a shot at bringing joy back into their lives: "just say yes." Raising two boys ? a curious six year-old (NICHOLAS MCANULTY) and a rebel teen (GEORGE MACKAY) from a previous marriage -- in a household devoid of feminine influence, and with an unabashed lack of rules, life becomes exuberant, instinctual, reckless . . . and on the constant verge of disaster.

A Miramax Films Release directed by Scott Hicks (SHINE, SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS, HEARTS IN ATLANTIS), THE BOYS ARE BACK opens commercially in San Diego on November 12.

Running Time: 100 Minutes Rated PG-13 for some sexual language and thematic elements.

Great movie for a single father.

What a treat to have another film by the same Cinematography that just brought us Bright Star and he delivered just as beautifully. As tempting as it was to take the credit I did over hear someone comment "My eyes have never been so happy..." I most definitely agreed. Yet like "Bart Got a Room" I could not really relate to this film....am an only child, parents still together and never been to Australia. I did think Clive Owen did a great job (though I still think he should have been the next James Bond) and should do more outside the "action packed" movies. The film did seem in the same vain of Kramer Vs. Kramer, with the father struggling to raise his son alone (though his wife was never going to come back to help). As touching as the film was I don't know that it will linger very long in our memory.

Basically a chick flick. The cinematography saved it. Beautiful but lacking.

again great photography and find actors are hamstringed by the lack of a script. No cliche was omitted from what could have been a great film. Long shots and frantic extended drives are what occurs when there is no script. from the opening credits it was clear the handsome but cute and dysfunctional family was in for trouble and nothing in the exposition saved Cinema Society from he predictable cliches. If this was based on a short story it should have been made as a short to lessen the misery of sitting through it.

A different kind of guy flick. Not too many guns. Limited blood. Wonderful for story, camera, acting, directing and scenery.

Good story told with admirable understatement. The cinematography was beautiful -- at least as good, in my view, as the same DP's work in Bright Star (which was just a little too dark for my taste). Clive Owen was terrific in this role, showing a range that he has kept hidden until now. In fact, the entire cast was excellent, though the actor playing Harry seemed to be forcing things a little. Overall a very enjoyable movie experience.

I loved every sappy, sobby moment of this beautifully filmed movie. Was it just me or did Clive Owen look like Mel Gibson? Maybe it was just Australia. Kudos to the little kid who was so excellent. It looks like the Boys had the task of growing up together...with love and good intentions it seemed to work. Not the best movie ever, but certainly emotional.

Do they not have Child Protective Services in Australia? BOTH those boys should have been taken away from him. (And a 5+ for Cinimatography!)
