BART GOT A ROOM
Nerdy high school senior Danny (newcomer Steven Kaplan) has spent six hundred bucks on the hotel room, the limo and the tux for his prom. He's only missing one thing--the girl. Hampered by well-intentioned but clueless advice from his newly-divorced parents (William H. Macy, Cheryl Hines) and unsympathetic mocking from his best friends (Brandon Hardesty, Alia Shawkat), Danny battles peer pressure, teen angst and his own raging hormones as he desperately searches for a prom date.
Written and Directed by Brian Hecker, BART GOT A ROOM is an Anchor Bay Release.
Rated PG-13 for sexual content, thematic elements and brief strong language.
Running Time: 80 Minutes

Though I can't say that I can relate to this movie (I am not Jewish, I did not go to the Prom, my parents are still together and I have never been to Florida) I did enjoy the film, though it was difficult not to envision Michael Cera (Arrested Development, Superbad and Juno) or even Jesse Eisenberg (Rodger Dodger, Adventureland and the new Zombieland) as the lead Danny....and how nice to see Alia Shawkat (Camille, the best friend), who was also in "Amreeka", in the series "Arrested Development" and the new Drew Barrymore film "Whipt It". I thought this was a sweet story that people of all ages could (and should) enjoy.

Brian Hecker, Steven Kaplan, and Chad Jamian Williams were fun, informative and hilarious at this screening. I am pushing for a sequel. Thank you for putting this together!

Some teen coming-of-age movies are unwatchable. Most are unoriginal. Though this one covers familiar territory, it does so in a fresh and irresistible fashion. The humor never feels forced or cheap. The characters are presented with subtlety and warm affection. As a viewer, I never felt exploited. It was simply a pleasure to watch this movie.
Once again, the writer-director's attendance at the screening immeasurably enhanced the experience. Brian Hecker handled the spotlight beautifully -- I would have been happy to listen to him for an hour. And it was a nice touch to have Steven Kaplan and Chad Williams (whom I will forever think of as Bart, despite his fleeting role in the film) in attendance as well. Well done, Andy.

Charming and sweet and totally joyful. Sometimes a movie is just supposed to be entertaining...Bart certainly was.

Meeting the director was the best part of the evening. What a well-spoken, dynamic and funny young man! The movie had it's moments but was just one more high school angst picture.
