RESERVATION ROAD

Based on the critically acclaimed novel of the same name by John Burnham Schwartz, RESERVATION ROAD is a compelling tale of the lure of revenge and the power of redemption. The drama revolves around two fathers, whose families and lives tragically converge with the death of a child. In the aftermath, Ethan (two time Academy Award® nominee Joaquin Phoenix) and Dwight (Mark Ruffalo) each react in unexpected ways as their families struggle to cope and an emotional reckoning looms.

Co-starring Academy Award® winners Jennifer Connelly and Mira Sorvino, RESERVATION ROAD is the compelling new drama from Academy Award®-nominated writer/director Terry George (HOTEL RWANDA). A Focus Features Release, it opens commercially in San Diego on October 19th.

PLEASE NOTE: This event takes place on a Wednesday.

Running Time: 102 Minutes

Rated: R for language and some disturbing images.

As much as one can like a poignant film as this I did like it. I didn’t realize that this film was going to fall into the same theme (pain/suffering/anger/revenge) as two others that have already been released recently, “The Brave One” (which I did not see, though I heard the film was “ok” but that Jodie Foster was great) and “Death Sentence” which unfortunately I did see and it was one of the worst films I have seen in a long time, it was at times laughable (unintentional of course) with how poor the writing was and I like Kevin Bacon, he seems like a nice guy but not so good/consistent with the movies he selects to partake in.

The downside to films like “Reservation Road” is it is often times a one time viewing for most (I can’t see myself watching it again) and it’s really difficult to recommend such an emotional draining film. I think the best way would be to do the “well if you liked….” and compare it to being more substantial than “Moonlight Mile”, less creepy but some of the suspense as “Little Children” and less slow then “In the Bedroom”…..I am sure there are other films with this same “theme” but these are the most current films I could think of right now......

I hope more people try and use this site as opposed to e-mailing Andy directly, it would nice to read what more of my fellow C.S. memebers think about these films.

Good performances all around, including the children (is that Dakota's little sister?),

although I did miss the Connelly character a bit in the second half of the film. The ending did feel a bit abrupt, but then again we don't always need to know exactly how everything turns out (just how long will Dwight really spend in prison and will the Red Sox sweep the Series).

Looking forward to The Kite Runner!
