Hannah Senesh was a World War II-era poet, diarist and staunch Zionist, who became famous as a paratrooper, resistance fighter and modern-day Joan of Arc. Her mother, Catherine, documented her daughter’s life in memoirs and in correspondence with Hannah. This dramatized documentary is based on interviews with family members, classmates, and kibbutz members—as well as Shimon Peres and historian Michael Berenbaum. Hannah’s dramatic life story is told through Catherine’s eyes, honoring the legacies of both mother and daughter. Under consideration for an Academy Award® for Best Documentary Feature.

It amazes me when stories 65 years old come out of no where. Yes, the physical mission failed, but the spiritual one suceeded.

Every year, it seems, we see a documentary about heroic people. Hanna Senesh is this year's hero. She is a hero by the example she set when she was a part of the only outside rescue mission for Jews during the Holocaust. Her mission may have failed, but it gave renewed hope to the Jews when hope had to be fading. BLESSED IS THE MATCH did a wonderful job of honoring Ms. Senesh and bringing her story to life.

The archive of footage preserved by the Israeli's never ceases to amaze me. I guess we Jews know how to preserve our past and reflect on our history. Thought this film used archival footage, photos and live action better than most films of this nature. Truthfully, I can't stop thinking about it. If you are Jewish, even if you are not, and have NOT traveled to Israel, I encourage it. The film was all the more poignant because of the trip I took there this summer. Thank you Andy for showing it.

First off The Morse Collectors was an interesting little short, "were those two children really getting messages or was their worry for their father making them imagine, hmmm???". Then "The Life & Death of Hannah Senesh", it never ceases to amaze me, the number of incredible stories that continue to come out of the horror that was WWII and this is another one. Hannah is not quite your standarnd hero and yet she was more a hero than many others. Amazingly recreated with writings, photos, and interviews with the people that were there. Well deserving of consideration for an Academy Award for Documentary Feature.
