Andy’s Birthday Celebration

NEW IN TOWN

Lucy Hill (Renee Zellweger) is an ambitious, up and coming executive living in Miami. She loves her shoes, she loves her cars and she loves climbing the corporate ladder. When she is offered a temporary assignment--in the middle of nowhere--to restructure a manufacturing plant, she jumps at the opportunity, knowing that a big promotion is close at hand. What begins as a straight forward job assignment becomes a life changing experience as Lucy discovers greater meaning in her life and, most unexpectedly, the man of her dreams (Harry Connick, Jr.).

NEW IN TOWN, starring Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick, Jr., is written by Kenneth Rance and C.Jay Cox, and directed by Jonas Elmer. A Lionsgate Entertainment Release, it opens commercially in San Diego on January 30th.

Rated PG-13 for brief strong language

Running Time: 96 Minutes

the movie that they missed making was Blanche and the ladies around the table "stamping". what a great/interesting group. Many memorable moments: the photo album, the quilt with phone numbers sewn in to keep in the car and waiting for Renee in the cold. As for the Renee-HC Jr. story line, un-memorable, phoned in... when the beard is more talked about than the story... well, it's all been said before.... but sometimes a sweet predictable movie is just what you need. Thanks Andy...hope the unanimous skewering of this movie did not ruin your birthday!

Just what we needed after all the heavy/intense movies we've had and that I have seen on my own (hello..."Rachel Getting Married", "The Reader"???). Yes "New In Town" was predictable and simple but it was sweet and made wish I had a friend or two from Minnesota.

It was an easy and funny movie. I enjoy almost every movie you have!!!! Not an academy award winning movie, but fun to watch and I enjoyed it!

A wasted evening.

Formulaic, unbelievable, and not the kind of movie that draws members to the cinema society.

I expected better of Harry Connick Jr. Another movie we've all seen before, over and over and over. What was that other forgettable movie that was a repeat...something about Grace. I think Hollywood needs a shot of original material.

Yes, NEW IN TOWN was light, schmaltzy fare. Yes, the characters were stereotypes and the scenes were contrived. Yes, it was predictable. And, yes, Renee phoned in her performance. What can be salvaged from NEW IN TOWN is a funny screenplay and a memorable character in Blanche.

Within the category of laugh-out-loud funny it ranks up there. Maybe it's a 3.5. Good timing by Rene even though actions were predictable.

Michael Keaton made one about a factory that I though was kind of similar.

It is quite formula. Not particularly believable. It is pleasant, not challenging, one can just sit back, relax enjoy the peoples accents, quirks and story line.
