KASSIM THE DREAM

Kidnapped at age 6 and turned into a child soldier—both a victim and perpetrator of war crimes—Kassim “The Dream” Ouma has dreams of becoming a world champion boxer. His startling tale of survival and success is real-life proof that humans, against the longest odds, can turn tragedy into inspiration.

KASSIM THE DREAM is directed by award winning documentary filmmaker Keif Davidson, and executive produced by Forest and Keisha Whitaker.

Though"difficult to watch", I found this intimate portrait of an extraordinary life both fascinating and uplifting. The young man whose formative years were marked by excruciating heartache, fear and violence emerges as a damaged yet remarkably resilient, optimistic survivor. Although the thread of brutality is perpetuated through his avocation, his nascent humanity and love of family and country blunted the blows. A beautiful portrayal of unfathomable cruelty and complex accommodation.

this was amazing. Everyone around me was commenting on how lucky we are. As for how Kassim is living his life, the camera can't make up the story, so to comment on the lack of happy ending or the "we see where this is going" aspect of the movie, it is what it is. That he can still cry, love, feel happiness, try hard and carry his burden all at the same time is a testiment to his humanity, flawed though it may be. Coming to America and getting caught up in the African American elite athlete hanger-on/girls/drugs is completely understandable. What is T.O.'s excuse? I loved meeting this boy and his large black-Irish family and his jaja-Maria. wow. Thanks Andy!

Very difficult to watch, what a terrible situation to have had to endure, but after all that I can't say I think much of the man that Kassim has become. The film was well made and showed the good and plenty of bad in his life. Hoping that some action associated with this film can actually help some of the children in Uganda. I think I might've been turned off by this film due in part to the boxing, which I don't think is much of a sport.
