THE FLYBOYS

Jason (Jesse James) and Kyle (Reiley McClendon), recent friends from different sides of the tracks, become embroiled in the adventure of their lives when they discover a mysterious airplane at the local small-town airport. The boys sneak aboard the plane for a look, but are forced to hide in the luggage compartment when two strange men show up. Soon Jason and Kyle unexpectedly find themselves airborne over the open Arizona desert. After hours in the air, the boys unwittingly uncover a bomb in the luggage compartment. When they burst into the cabin to report their discovery, they find that everyone on board has bailed out. The boys must take the controls and land the plane themselves. But their troubles are only beginning as Jason and Kyle realize that they've foiled a heist to steal millions of dollars from the mob in this high-action, coming-of-age film.

Photographed by San Diego State University’s Jim Orr, THE FLYBOYS stars Tom Sizemore, Stephen Baldwin, Jesse James, Reiley McClendon, J. Todd Adams and Dallen Gettling. Directed, produced, edited and co-written by Rocco DeVilliers, THE FLYBOYS is a Dark Coast Pictures Production.

Running Time: 118 Minutes

Rated: PG-13

PLEASE NOTE: THE FLYBOYS is not the same movie that opened our season back in 2006, directed by Tony Bill. That was called FLYBOYS-- this is THE FLYBOYS. Different movie!

Predictable but very unrealistic. I groaned most of the way through this movie and would have departed if I had not been pinned in.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film I am eager to see it again and this time to see it with my family. How delightful to know that I won't be embarrassed by profanity, extreme violence and gratuitous sex. According to Wikipedia, basic feelings include joy, acceptance, fear, surprise, sadness, disgust, anger and anticipation. "The Flyboys" covered all of my emotional bases.

What a wiz-bang of a movie to start the season off with! I was so engrossed and captivated by the two young leads, though “Jason” looked familiar (the kid/son of Helen Hunt in As Good as it Gets) I was completely smitten with “Kyle”, though he was only 12 at the time I thought “he’s got the look” and acting chops...then to see him come walking down the aisle I knew I was right on with my prediction, what a cutie! (he’s 18 now so it’s okay to say that). I thought all the players in the film did a great job; I almost didn’t recognize Tom Sizemore as he had slimmed down quite a bit and looked a bit “wiser”. There may be parts that might seem unlikely or too sappy but I don’t care because I did care about the characters and you have to have a touch of whimsy to captivate the imagination and attention of children (big and small). Though I really hope this film get lots of play in theaters, regardless I will most definitely be recommending it to my friends with young kids (10 + years old, even though it’s PG-13) and even my parents and In-Laws as soon as it becomes available...if this is any indication of what is to come during the rest of this season, I can’t wait to see more.

Yep, I think we agree with all the film festivals, this film is a winner. What a great, entertaining film that looks like many more millions of dollars were spent than it actually cost. The action rarely slows down. What a super way to remake the classic young buddies coming of age film and not have it be too cliche (even with a couple of tearjerker scenes). Way to go Rocco!

What a good way to start the season! Fun movie..great kid actors! The scene with Tom Sizemore and Stephen Baldwin watching the boys play was so moving. A bit predictable and slightly long in parts...but all in all...terrific!
