NOODLE

Miri’s life has been crumbling around her for years. She is twice-widowed, has a strained relationship with her divorced sister Gila and wants nothing else to do but be left alone. Things change when Miri’s Chinese housekeeper asks her to watch her son for an hour and never comes back. Unable to communicate with the child, Miri and Gila must put their differences aside in order to find out what happened to the child’s mother and do whatever they can to reunite them.

NOODLE is a touching and light-hearted story that examines the importance of family in our lives and the emotional healing that the bond of family can provide.

PLEASE NOTE: NOODLE is in Hebrew with English subtitles.

Running Time: 90 Minutes Not Rated.

It was nice to see a film from Israel that wasn’t about war or anger or be so dark, though the story wasn’t quite plausible it was enjoyable none the less . I thought the child actor was great. What a transformation Miri made every time she got ready for work, almost looked like two different people...??? I like to think that if this situation took place any where else in the world that the people/adults involved would still be caring and willing to risk a bit to bring a boy and his mother together as opposed to just calling the authority and letting the child be someone else’s problem because I want to believe there are a lot more good and decent people in the world then what we usually see on in the daily news. So do Miri and her brother-in-law end up together? (and her sister with her old fling?)

I loved the film last week, Noodles. Beautifully acted, touchingly poignant and a pleasure to watch. While the story could have taken place in any country, I think it did illustrate something unique about the Israelis – they aren’t called “sabras” for nothing…..hard on the outside but soft on the inside. Look at how long it took for those women to soften up, not only to one another but also to themselves. I do believe that is something bred into Israelis from infancy, and it’s not surprising that they would regard life in that way. It’s too bad, but living amongst fierce enemies ready to destroy you at any given moment does a lot to destroy personal vulnerability. I loved the movie and wish we saw more like it. I’m one of those Cinema Society members who wish, wish, wish we saw more independent films, especially ones which won’t be finding distribution in the US, rather than all the pre-opening movies we’d be able to see anyway. I know you have a lot of people to try to satisfy, but that’s my wish!

Terrific movie!...charming story with great acting...one of the best we've seen this season.... One criticism would be that at times it was a little difficult keeping up with the subtitles as the dialog moved along quickly.

Would love to have a little more of an explaination on why such a terrific film is not being shown commercially. As you described, it has certainly been warmly received at the film festivals. How is it possible that the owners of this little jewel would prefer to shut it away??

Very enjoyable film. I liked the quick dialogue between Gila, her family and her friends, although sometimes it was tough to keep up with the subtitles and still enjoy the imagery. There were some minor issues with the lighting in a couple scenes but not significant. Of course the little boy Noodle stole every scene he was in, overall a satisfying tearjerker. And to think FedEx almost shipped it back.

What a delightful and moving film! The director was able to get an amazing performance out of that little boy! Very touching, and the lead actress is breathtaking...obviously the camera agrees. Bravo Israel.
