RUN, FAT BOY, RUN

Five years ago Dennis (Simon Pegg) was at the altar about to marry Libby (Thandie Newton), his pregnant fiancée. He got cold feet and ran for the hills and he’s been going in circles ever since. When Dennis discovers Libby’s hooked up with high-flying-go-getter Whit (Hank Azaria), he realizes it’s now or never. He enters a marathon to show he’s more than a quitter, but then finds out just how much sweat, strain and tears it takes to change. Nobody gives him a chance but Dennis knows this is his only hope to be more than a running joke.

Marking the directorial debut of actor David Schwimmer, RUN, FAT BOY, RUN is a Picturehouse Release. It opens commercially in San Diego on March 28th.

Rated PG-13 for some rude and sexual humor, nudity, language and smoking.

Running Time: 100 Minutes

Though not “the best movie ever” I did enjoy it flaws and all. Sometimes ya just need a silly simple film after along hard week of life. I thought the casting was interesting. I’m not use to thinking of Thandie Newton as an “English” actress. I think Hank Azaria is a multi-talented actor (his voices alone are amazing) and I enjoy Simon Pegg when I see his films. Overall I think I would recommend this film if they just wanted to have a laugh.

I thought this was a very enjoyable movie, but perhaps that is because I like British humor. I thought the writing was quite clever, and I loved how expressive the face of Simon Pegg was. It was predictable, of course, and probably corny, but there were enough good lines and effective sight gags that I could forgive the corn-factor. I don't know that I would recommend that my friends see this in the theater, but I would definitely recommend that they rent it once it's out on DVD.

This was another example of poor British humor. The lack of any connection with the reality of the training needed for a marathon was also disappointing. It took the theme of achievement and perserverance into a fantasy place of English methology. The main character was so pathetic as to be disgusting and seldom funny. And if anyone noticed, the bad guy in the film who was shown as a creep was a sucessful person in most respects and was an AMERICAN! I could only recommend this film to someone who wanted to work with boredom and had lots of time to kill.

Funny in parts, very predictable (of course Whit is an amazing guy, but then turns out to be a jerk, of course Dennis falls down just before the finish but then gets up to meet Libby & son, and finish the race), but enjoyable anyway. Maybe a bit much of the grossout humor "That was the second most disgusting fluid I've ever had in my eye."

Not quite as enjoyable as other Simon Pegg films, guess we'll have to wait and see how funny he is as Scotty in the new Star Trek film.

Dennis: Excuse me, can I just stop you there.

Whit: Yes...?

Dennis: Oh, I don't have anything to say... I just wanted to stop you there.
