COME AS YOU ARE (HASTA LA VISTA!)

In this comedy-drama, three guys in their twenties love wine and women. Wine they have savored abundantly, but they have never had a woman. Under the guise of a wine tour they embark on a journey to Spain hoping to rectify that fact. Nothing will stop them. Not even their disabilities: one is blind, the second is confined to a wheelchair and the third is completely paralyzed.

Come As You Are is loosely based on the story of Asta Philpot, an American afflicted with arthrogryposis who fights for disabled people and their sexual rights. Philpot was the subject of a British documentary For One Night Only and was featured on several talk shows including Oprah.

“For me, this is a very human story,” says director Enthoven. “What I really want to show with this film is that all of us are living with a handicap when it comes to communicating with others.”

Running Time: 115 Minutes

PLEASE NOTE: COME AS YOU ARE (HASTA LA VISTA) is in Dutch with English Subtitles

I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was quite touching and funny in equal measure. The actors were completely believable.

A warm and totally human story. Thank you for bringing this to us

What a great movie to start the new year off. I was interested in these characters from the get go and didn’t want to leave them. I was of course most impressed to learn that the three actors were not handicapped because they were absolutely believable the entire time (though the scene right after they “became men” that depicted them all walking and with no disabilities I suspected it was possibility then).

I’m sorry I missed the pre-discussion/cinema chat and the first five minutes of the film (was down the hall seeing “The Iron Lady”, Meryl Oscar nod yes, movie itself, not so much). “Come as You Are” is another great experience/insight from another counterculture.

What a gem! Each of the characters was so well written and totally believable. Down to the families, especially Lars' little sister. It really was a classic "buddy road trip" movie, told from a more unique and sensitive place. It stays with you long after the movie ends. What a wonderful experience watching it with the CS ~ it felt like we were all having this moment together. THIS is why I'm a member... Thanks, Andy!

Andy, this was a winner! Both Rex and I came away from the screening with headaches -- caused by trying not to sob uncontrollably, disturbing our seatmates, while laughing uncontrollably at the same time! Unique concept, excellent writing, brilliant casting -- thanks for showing this one.

Thank you Andy for this little jewel. It was a delight from beginning to end. The writing was pitch perfect. It was the glue that held this piece together. Each of the three main characters played their parts with aplomb. They inhabited the characters they were given. Sweet, funny and poignant. It lives in the mind well after you leave the theater. More's the pity no one else will see this film outside our Cinema Socirty "family."
