JUNO
JUNO stars Ellen Page as the title character, a whip-smart teen confronting an unplanned pregnancy by her classmate Paulie (Michael Cera). With the help of her hot best friend Leah (Olivia Thirlby), Juno finds her unborn child a “perfect” set of parents: an affluent suburban couple, Mark and Vanessa (Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner), longing to adopt. Luckily, Juno has the total support of her parents (JK Simmons and Allison Janney) as she faces some tough decisions, flirts with adulthood and ultimately figures out where she belongs.
Directed by Jason Reitman (THANK YOU FOR SMOKING), JUNO, a Fox Searchlight Release, opens in San Diego on December 21st.
Rated PG-13 for mature thematic material, sexual content and language
Running Time: 96 Minutes

I understand why people liked the movie. However, I wonder if there are some others like myself who thought that the film glamourized teen pregnancy. For this reason alone, I kept having unsettled feelings and would be hesitant to recommend it.

Loved the movie; clever dialogue, amazing acting by everyone, particularly Ellen Page. Many subtle messages, and interesting relationship dynamics. Recommended to everyone I know. I actually wouldn't mind seeing this movie again, since I missed many lines due to the laughter in the audience.
Well done, Andy!
P.S. Based on the title alone (Juno), I doubt if I would have gone to see this movie. So glad it was on our Cinema Society schedule!

As much as I liked this film and thought that it was very funny, I was put-off a bit by some of the dialogue (maybe I'm just getting too old).

Well I actually can’t wait to see this movie again because 1.) I just want to watch a great film over again and 2.) I am sure I missed a few subtleties throughout the film. The cast was amazing and I loved seeing all the various “levels” of actors all doing their part and complimenting the script. Not only did it remind me a little of Napoleon Dynamite & American Splendor (beginning graphics-wise), it also had me thinking of Ghost World which I thought this filmed had a lot in common with and it also had reminded me of a “smart” (but cancelled-before-it’s-time) TV show Freaks and Geeks.
Being that Jason Bateman and Micheal Cera were Father-n-Son from Arrested Development (Awesome show and also too smart for it’s own good) and though they shared no screen time in Juno I wonder if the reference the “real” Dad (J.K. Simmons) made to not yet wanting to be a “Pop-Pop” was in reference to A.D. because I think that is what the Michael Cera’s character referred to when he spoke of the Grandfather (Jeffery Tambor) in A.D.
I guess I was one of the slow ones in not seeing Jason Bateman’s character “coming on to” Juno till it was blatantly obvious (of course at that point I no longer liked him)….and though Juno was “wise beyond her years” etc. there were times that she did show she was “just 16!” (though I can’t think of any examples at the moment, I’m sure I’ll remember them when I see the film again…though Juno also not seeing that he was coming on to her though the Step Mom forewarned her is one example, yes?)…..I hope no one complains that this film does not take teenage pregnancy seriously or that some how this film “glamorizes” teen pregnancy (neither which I agree with) or about the “sex scenes” (which was very PG) or about some of the language (this film is PG-13). This film is funny, smart, poignant and endearing….ya can’t ask for much more…..oh ya, this film is a hoot!
