Salute to Swiss Filmmaker Bettina Oberli and

LATE BLOOMERS (""""Die Herbstzeitlosen"""")

The Cinema Society of San Diego is proud to salute one of Switzerland's most accomplished filmmakers-Bettina Oberli.

Bettina Oberli was born and raised in Meiringen, Switzerland (near Bern) in 1972, and studied from 1995 to 2000 at the University of Art and Design Zurich in the academic field of film and video. In 2000 she received her HGKZ diploma as a director. After serving as assistant to various filmmakers in New York and Berlin, she began writing and directing her own films, beginning in 2002 with IBIZA and IM NORDWIND in 2004. In 2006 she hit big with the film we'll view this evening-LATE BLOOMERS, which represented Switzerland as that country's selection for the Academy's Best Foreign Language Oscar and is historic in its success in Switzerland. Her films have received numerous awards from film festivals around the globe. In April 2013 she presented her first stage production-ANNA KARENINA-at the Theater Basel.

The Cinema Society of San Diego is honored to welcome Battina Oberli, who will present her most successful work-LATE BLOOMERS, first presented at the Cinema Society in 2006.

Since her husband's death, Martha (Stephanie Glazer), 80, has lost the zest of life. In the placid Emmental village of Trub, her friends Lisi, Hanni and Frieda and determined to get her back on her feet. They decide to help Martha realize a long- held secret dream: to open a lingerie boutique.

Before long, the four feisty old ladies on a mission plunge the village in turmoil and put an end to the well-established and orderly peace and quiet. Martha's son, the village vicar, finds himself trying to subdue the wave of sensual madness sweeping through his parish. Outraged by the news of Martha's project and increasingly concerned for Trub's reputation, the villagers spare no effort to prevent the shop from opening.

A light-hearted social satire, LATE BLOOMERS blows apart Swiss self-righteousness and inspires hope that it is indeed never too late to make one's dreams come true.

PLEASE NOTE: LATE BLOOMERS is in Swiss- German with English subtitles.

Running Time: 89 Minutes Not Rated.
