ROY TAN

performs the Music of the Movies

Roy Tan is a musical sensation.

A modern-day Liberace with ""97.4% less bling"", Roy Tan is a Canadian musician--now residing in San Diego--known for his improvisational pianistic flair as well as his compositions and orchestral arrangements, often described as imaginative, cinematic, lush, and theatrical.

In demand as a pianist, music director and arranger, Roy began touring with the Canadian Tenors before becoming the music director and producer for the group Destino. In 2012, Roy started the duo 'Roy & Rosemary' with violinist Rosemary Siemens. Together they have captured the hearts of audiences around the world with their rich, soulful sound and on-the-spot improvisations in various styles of music. Their soaring and dramatic rendition of Leonard Cohen's ""Hallelujah"" has garnered over 25 million views on YouTube.

Growing up in a family of music lovers, Roy started piano lessons before the age of 4. Gifted with a natural ear and perfect pitch, he learned to improvise soon after. At age 11, he began performing regularly in his home church, and has since gone on to perform on many stages around the world, touring Coast to Coast in Canada and the United States, including appearances in Rome and the Vatican City, at Walt Disney World Florida, the Miss America Gala at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas and New York's famed Carnegie Hall.

The Cinema Society is honored to welcome Roy Tan in his first public concert appearance in his new city of San Diego.

The program runs 90 minutes, with one 20-minute intermission.
