Salute to Sir Nicolas Winton and

NICKY’S FAMILY

With a Special Visit by his daughter, Barbara Winton

There are around 6000 people in the world today who owe their lives to Nicholas Winton. They are the descendants of a group of refugee children rescued by him from the Nazi threat in 1939. Some of them know of his existence and the part he played in their history, many others do not. It was a short event in his life but a critical one for those whose lives were saved. For him that intervention was over in a flash and other adventures supplanted it. Only much later did this episode re-emerge in his life and ever since has brought him visitors from all over the world anxious to learn his story.

Mr. Winton’s daughter—Barbara Winton—will be joining us this evening to introduce, screen and discuss NICKY’S FAMILY, a feature-length English-language documentary with dramatic reenactments:

NICKY’S FAMILY tells the nearly forgotten story of Nicholas Winton, an Englishman who organized the rescue of 669 Czech and Slovak children just before the outbreak of World War II. Winton, now 105 years old, did not speak about these events with anyone for more than half a century. His exploits would have probably been forgotten if his wife, fifty years later, hadn’t found a suitcase in the attic, full of documents and transport plans.

Running Time: 96 Minutes. Not Rated.

Following each screening, Barbara Winton will be in the Arclight La Jolla Theater lobby to sell copies of her book, titled IF IT’S NOT IMPOSSIBLE: THE LIFE OF SIR NICHOLAS WINTON.

Special thanks to Neil Friedman of Menemsha Films for his support of this special program.
